CROSSING THE THRESHOLD
Have you ever committed to an action, then, realized that if you took that action, there would be no reversing it? That’s the turning point. It’s also known as the point of no return. Joseph Campbell, in his exploration of the storyline found in legends around the world that he called The Hero’s Journey, called this stage of the Journey, Crossing the First Threshold. In the life of Jesus, the turning point came when he returned to Bethany to find his dear friend, Lazarus, already dead and buried. Instead of accepting that, Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, and embarked on the path that would ultimately lead to his own death and resurrection. In our spiritual lives, we often can identify that one defining moment when we commit to a new way of living. This Sunday, we will explore some of those moments and why it’s so important to be on the journey together!
